Head in the clouds – How issues tracking elevated Cloudera’s hybrid cloud messaging with business and trade media

To support Cloudera’s hybrid cloud messaging and position the company’s EMEA cloud VP as an industry thought leader, Spark tracked the CMA/Ofcom investigation into the UK cloud market. The investigation focused on the current challenges surrounding being able to switch between cloud providers.

Story

Cloudera is a data partner for the most successful in almost every industry, helping them manage and analyse data of all types, on any cloud, public or private. With hybrid cloud environments becoming increasingly commonplace – with data and workloads residing in different locations – Cloudera wanted to be positioned as a thought leader on the topic.

Being able to move data between different clouds is often more complex and expensive than businesses expect. As a result, many organisations find themselves locked into cloud services. This is an issue that gained the attention of the Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) and Ofcom, as part of an investigation into the UK cloud market.

We built a position on the issue focusing on the need for increases flexibility and developed insightful commentary that drew comparisons between how difficult it was to change your bank or mobile provider in the past and how easy it is now. We also ensured Cloudera could talk about how its unified data platform can make it easier for organisations to securely move data between clouds or from on-premises to cloud environments.

Results

Through some targeted pitching, coinciding with Ofcom’s initial recommendations to the CMA, we secured top-tier business and IT trade coverage in City AM, Cloud Pro, Beta News and Capacity. We also secured stand-out feature coverage in a ‘Digital Transformation’ supplement within The Times, and we expanded on our commentary within two opinion articles, which we placed in Capacity and Data Centre Review respectively.

In addition to helping drive awareness of Cloudera’s hybrid cloud messaging, the media coverage raised the profile of the company’s EMEA Cloud VP.
