Spark Coverage Cup

Media relations is at the heart of a successful campaign and our team take great pride in beating their colleagues to win the weekly Spark Coverage Cup vote.

The winning piece of coverage isn’t just about circulation or credibility. A great business national or broadcast piece doesn’t always beat trade coverage – outcomes are key. How effectively was the client’s message communicated? What was the engagement like? Did it result in leads?

While earned coverage is now only part of what we do, the impact of what we deliver is often why clients choose to work with us in the first place. It’s why 80% of our clients come through referral and why some of our clients have stayed with us for over ten years.

Below are some of our previous highlights:

Coverage Cup 05/06/2024

With summer rapidly approaching, our national coverage has been heating up in recent weeks. We kick off this round-up with PacBio coverage in a Financial Times ‘Health, Deforestation, and Climate Change’ supplement. The piece came after the team engaged with journalists they suspected would be writing for the supplement. PacBio was the only service provider quoted in the article, sharing insight on the link between biodiversity loss and the likelihood of pandemics.

Our Cypher Learning team also reaped the rewards of strong media relations, securing coverage in both The Times and The Sun after sharing research with an employment-focussed reporter for ‘Learning at Work Week’.

We’ve also had some great national hits that demonstrate the value of nurturing long-term relationships – with a contact asking if we had insight to share on quantum attacks, resulting in a Venafi hit in Bloomberg. Elsewhere our Venafi team identified an opportunity to share insight from the Bad Bots report we’ve been pitching over the last few months, securing a mention in The Guardian’s TechScape newsletter.

We’ve also had some great pieces in the key tech trades. HP appeared in an IT Pro feature warning about stealthy malware tactics and shared insight from the latest HP Threat Insights report. Our Couchbase team’s latest CIO research was covered by Microscope, and The Register included their insight in a NoSQL database deep dive.

Elsewhere, we have been making waves across vertical industries. As a case in point, our Quadient team hit not only retail, in an A1 Retail feature on customer experience, but also placed a byliner with leading finance title Electronic Payments International, discussing the transitioning payment landscape. We have also hit the telco press on multiple fronts, with an Onnec byliner on cabling in data centre modularity published by Capacity, while Viasat’s emergency services FOI was covered by Telco News.

Things are equally lively over in life sciences with plenty of interview coverage. Phesi secured a stand-out piece in The Medicine Maker with Phesi’s CEO discussing the impacts of the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine on clinical trials. Phesi also secured podcast coverage in Pharmaphorum on data-driven clinical trials optimisation. And the Elsevier team secured an interview with Drug Discovery & Development to discuss its new GenAI product, SciBite Chat.
