You can be a superhero – World Blood Donation Day 2022
You don’t need costumes and special effects to be a superhero. As Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen explain in this video, people may not realise it, but they have the power to alter reality and change timelines in other people’s lives.
The stars of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made the video to promote World Blood Donor Day, taking place on Tuesday 14th June. This year, this Spark is also getting involved, making this our latest company-wide initiative, hot on the heels of our recent steps challenge. We will be helping spread word of the event’s two key messages: raising awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and thanking voluntary, unpaid blood for their life-saving gifts of blood.
On the day, a squad of us will be heading to our local blood donor centre. I’m currently signing people up to donate near the office, and some of our remote workers will be visiting a centre near to their home. It will be great to understand more about how the process works, as well as making some donations of our own.
Of course, not everybody is able to or wants to donate blood, but that doesn’t stop us from spreading the message. So on the day, we will be having a red-themed party in our Oxford Street office. We’re currently wracking our brains for the best red-coloured food to make, with Ginny already pledging to bake a red velvet cake, while Gus is keen to whip up some of his signature negronis.
Keep an eye out for updates on the day, as we’ll be sharing some snaps from our visit to the donor centre, and our office party. Maybe you’ll be joining in and becoming a superhero yourself! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll get back to planning – and we’d love to hear from you if you’ve got any genius red food and drink ideas to share.
