Taking action on sustainability – Spark’s vegan challenge
Now that event season is back in full swing, I can’t be the only one who’s been to the Excel Centre over the last few months. My recent visit was my first for several years, and I was really surprised at how prominent sustainability has become for the venue.
On my way in, signs informed me the venue has become carbon neutral and that it’s now home to one of the UK’s largest wormeries, which breaks down food waste. When I headed for the exit, I was asked if I wanted to hand back my lanyard for recycling/re-use, and I saw an electric car promoting the Formula e race taking place later this summer.
This experience perfectly encapsulates just how much of a central issue sustainability is becoming in the UK. Increasing numbers of our clients are driving sustainable behaviours, from Dynatrace launching an app to help customers reduce the carbon footprint of their cloud ecosystems, to Ivalua tracking Scope Three Greenhouse Gas emissions to help companies manage environmental impact across their supply chains.
It’s an issue we care a lot about at Spark too. Over the course of June, we’re going to be taking action by cutting down our consumption of meat and dairy – which would save 1,100 gallons of water and spare one animal every day. We’re running a vegan challenge, setting a cross-agency challenge of consuming 200 vegan meals in June. If we can hit our target, Spark will contribute to the upkeep of some animals at Mudchute Farm, and helping open up clean water supply in developing areas through One Nation.
Keep an eye on our social media and blog for updates on our progress – including pictures of some of the animals!
