Spark Bake Off 2022

Of the many clear signs Autumn is arriving – from fallen leaves crunching underfoot to Starbucks beginning to sell Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, one of the most welcome is a new series of The Great British Bake Off hitting TV screens. There was a lot of excitement in the Spark office when this year’s contestants were introduced to the public at the start of September – and it’s reached fever pitch with news that we’re holding our own baking contest this year.

Running in line with the TV series, we’re going to have face-offs every Thursday, with two people bringing a cake into the office. We’ll then come together for ‘elevenses’ to sample the cakes and score them out of five for flavour, presentation, texture and creativity.

We’ll be building towards a Grand Final featuring the highest scoring bakers, who will face each other during the same week as the final of the TV series, with the winner claiming the glory and a prize. There will also be a wooden spoon prize for those of us with what you might describe as ‘limited baking abilities’ – I’m putting myself forward as an early frontrunner in this category.

It’s all for a good cause: we’ll be collecting voluntary donations for Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for the cake, and Spark will double the overall amount we raise. We’re kicking things off this week in line with the TV series starting – keep your eyes on our social media channels for further updates.
