Cake it till you make it – Spark’s Bake Off 2024 has arrived!

In true autumnal fashion, many of us will be spending our evenings sipping hot drinks, tucked into the sofa with the Great British Bake Off on our screens. So naturally, it’s time to kick off our annual Spark Bake Off!

Last year it seemed my daily sweet treat obsession finally paid off, as I pipped our resident baker, Hannah, to the post in our grand finale. But victory was no piece of cake, it was a closely fought contest, as the Spark team brought shedloads of creativity to the table – and some questionable sausage rolls courtesy of Tom. From Sophie’s bonfire-themed chocolate cake to Dom’s mushroom and walnut samosas, the effort from the Spark team was outstanding.

We’re all set for another year of ding-dong face-offs, sitting down together in the office to score two head-to-head bakes for flavour, texture, presentation and creativity. With themed weeks including bread, chocolate and biscuits, we’re already licking our lips – and wondering who will make it through to the final.

Of course, it’s not all about winning. We are fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support along the way! Last year saw an incredible £300 raised in donations by the Spark team, which provided a grant to help with the extra costs that living that cancer can bring.

So without further ado, bakers – get your spatulas to hand and whisks at the ready, it’s time for Spark’s Bake Off to begin.
